Beihang University, as the initiating institution, led the establishment and was among the first approved by the Ministry of Education for an undergraduate program in artificial intelligence. It was also one of the first to set up an interdisciplinary AI degree authorization point, pioneering a comprehensive undergraduate-to-doctoral AI education system. The School, recognized for its "AI High-Level Talent Training Program for National Urgent Needs" and its AI discipline as a Beijing Advanced Discipline, focuses on analyzing and constructing complex systems, emphasizing a holistic approach that integrates foundational knowledge, practical skills, and interdisciplinary learning. It is dedicated to cultivating top-tier AI scientists and engineers, breaking traditional disciplinary boundaries, integrating diverse academic resources, and reinforcing core scientific competencies. It aims to cultivate students capable of addressing fundamental AI challenges and prepare them to be future pioneers and innovators in the field. The School admits approximately 80 undergraduates and 170 postgraduates annually.
The School has established a comprehensive talent development and research model, aiming to advance core AI theories, address critical technical challenges, and develop major AI application platforms, creating a multidisciplinary center of excellence in education and research. The School encompasses several specialized centers, including the Mathematics and Fundamental AI Theory Center, the Intelligence Perception and Cognition Research Center, the Intelligence Detection and Cooperative Control Research Center, and the Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Future Blockchain and Privacy Computing, all committed to advancing aerospace technology and spearheading innovations in information science.
