In its early years, the School specialized in training undergraduate students in Flight Technology tailored for airlines. By integrating theoretical education with practical flight training, the School is dedicated to cultivating high-quality civil aviation professionals with a global outlook. It has developed a unique talent development model for civil aviation characterized by "full-cycle integration of school and enterprise," "comprehensive international training," and "holistic value shaping." This has resulted in a multi-level educational system that combines "theory-experiment-practice," shifting talent training from "being able to fly" to "being skilled in flying." The School has produced a significant number of top-flight professionals who are "practitioners of aviation theory," "executors of international standards," and "guardians of flight safety." As of 2025, the School has trained more than 8,100 pilots for the civil aviation industry. Among its graduates, more than 2,500 have advanced to the rank of Captain. The School currently has 671 students enrolled.
In response to the rapid expansion of the domestic civil aviation industry and to fulfill the School's strategic needs, the undergraduate program in Transportation (Aviation Maintenance Engineering) was introduced in 2006. This program primarily cultivates cross-disciplinary talents with foundational knowledge related to civil aviation, focusing on mechanical design and maintenance, information processing and application, and civil aviation management.
With the rapid development of aviation technology, the design, manufacturing, and industrial application of drones have surged. There is a significant demand for interdisciplinary talents in areas such as drone system design, application, airworthiness, and management. Capitalizing on Beihang's strong foundation in UAV disciplines, faculty expertise, research achievements, and experimental facilities, the School was approved by the Ministry of Education (MOE) in March 2017 to establish the first undergraduate program in "UAV System Engineering." This program is driven by cutting-edge demands in drone systems and aims to cultivate interdisciplinary talents with systematic thinking, innovation awareness, and leadership potential.
Currently, the School implements teaching evaluations, optimizes cultivation structures, and enhances teaching quality. Over the year, it offers 65 undergraduate courses, including 19 core professional courses, 29 general professional courses, 6 engineering foundation courses, and 4 foreign language courses.
In 2024, the School initiated a full-time master's degree program in flight training in collaboration with China Southern Airlines, targeting students whose undergraduate majors are in Flight Design. According to the "Exemption Recommendation and Admission of Outstanding Undergraduates to Postgraduate Programs," three flight students from China Southern Airlines were selected to pursue master's degrees in Transportation.
