School of Transportation Science and Engineering

Beihang University stands as one of China's pioneering institutions in cultivating transportation professionals and advancing transportation science research. The School of Transportation Science and Engineering consists of four departments: the Department of Transportation, the Department of Automotive Engineering, the Department of Aircraft Airworthiness Engineering, and the Department of Intelligent Transportation Infrastructure.

Study

The discipline of Transportation Engineering, covering areas such as Transportation Planning and Management, Traffic Information and Control, Traffic Safety and Environment, Vehicle Operation Engineering, and Transportation Infrastructure Engineering, is a national "Double First-Class" discipline. It serves as a pilot unit for the development of a transportation powerhouse and was rated as an A-level discipline in the Ministry of Education's fifth round of discipline evaluation.

The School aims to cultivate leaders in the transportation field with comprehensive development in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education. It adopts the "Four Strengths" talent cultivation model, focusing on patriotism, solid foundational knowledge, hands-on practice, and integration of science and education. In alignment with the pilot tasks for building a transportation powerhouse, the School has developed a first-class talent cultivation system centered on the "Comprehensive Multimodal Transportation Leadership Talent Training Model." This system produces professionals with strong character, a sense of social responsibility, robust foundational knowledge, scientific literacy, and a commitment to innovation.

Faculty

The School has earned significant recognition, including a National Teaching Achievement First Prize, and has cultivated an impressive roster of talent. Among its faculty are one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 10 national leading talents, and 17 national young talents. The School has also formed multiple interdisciplinary innovation teams headed by top-tier experts, including academicians.

Research

The School adheres to a dual-driven strategy of meeting national strategic needs and pursuing international academic frontiers. Its development is characterized by a focus on integration of air and ground transportation, as well as the advancement of intelligent, networked, and collaborative transportation systems. The School is supported by multiple national and provincial platforms, including:

- The National Key Laboratory for Intelligent Transportation Integrated with Vehicles and Roads;

- The National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data Applications in Comprehensive Transportation;

- The MOE Key Laboratory for Intelligent Transportation Technology and Systems;

- The MIIT Key Laboratory for Unmanned Transportation Technology of Special Vehicles;

- The Beijing Key Laboratory for Vehicle-Road Collaboration and Safety Control;

- The "111" Base for Innovation and Intelligence in Intelligent Transportation.

Over the past 12 years, the School has received seven National Science and Technology Awards.

International Cooperation

In recent years, the School has actively expanded new frontiers in international talent cultivation and scientific collaboration. Leveraging the Intelligent Transportation Innovation Base supported by the Ministry of Education, it has continuously broadened and deepened exchanges and cooperation with world-class universities and research institutions, striving to enhance the international standards and global influence of its specialized talent development programs.

By fully utilizing the university's global partnerships, the School has signed dual-degree joint training agreements with the French Civil Aviation University (ENAC) and the Institut Supérieur des Techniques Aéronautiques et de Construction Automobile (ESTACA), accelerating the development of new pathways for scientific and educational collaboration with countries along the Belt and Road Initiative, the Middle East, and BRICS nations.

Additionally, the School has hosted high-level international academic conferences and forums in the field of transportation, further expanding its global innovation network in transportation disciplines.

As pioneers in transportation science, we forge ahead with determination. The blueprint for a new era has been drawn, and Beihang University's School of Transportation Science and Engineering invites you to join us in building a stronger nation!
