About the Performers:

The China National Traditional Orchestra (CNTO), under the administration of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, is a national-level music performance organization. It has the largest and most comprehensive traditional Chinese orchestra globally, alongside the only professional national chorus in China.

Founded in 1960, the CNTO opened a new chapter for ancient Chinese music. Its first director was Mr. Li Huanzhi, the renowned composer of the "Spring Festival Overture" and former Chairman of the Chinese Musicians Association.

The artists of the CNTO actively bring traditional music to communities across the nation—from rural fields to urban neighborhoods, from campuses to factories—reaching all 34 provincial-level regions, including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. Through collaborations with local traditional orchestras, the CNTO has successfully produced numerous performances featuring distinct regional characteristics. It initiated and established the Chinese National Music Promotion Center and has partnered with the National Public Cultural Cloud platform to disseminate outstanding Chinese traditional music across the country. The CNTO's Youth Group focuses on singing folk songs and performing traditional music, inheriting the legacy of Chinese culture, promoting aesthetic education in traditional music, and nurturing a new generation of confident and composed Chinese youth.

The CNTO is dedicated to promoting Chinese traditional music culture and continuously advancing the creative transformation and innovative development of China's outstanding traditional heritage. With the creation of artistic masterpieces as its core mission and performance as the central focus, the orchestra plays a guiding, representative, and exemplary role in the field. It actively explores pathways to make traditional music more compact, diverse, and trend-adapted, interpreting Chinese folk music through popular and youthful expressions. The CNTO is committed to both live performances and digital broadcasting, balancing offline public performances with online educational outreach, and leveraging new media platforms to serve the public.

The CNTO actively engages in international cultural exchanges, having performed in over 30 countries and regions across five continents, showcasing China's cultural image on the world stage. The orchestra has performed during state visits by Chinese leaders to Russia, the United States, Greece, Peru, and other countries, and has been invited to participate in high-profile national diplomatic events such as the APEC meetings, the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, and the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, earning praise from numerous foreign leaders. It has graced the stages of world-renowned venues including the UN Headquarters in New York, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., Carnegie Hall in New York, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Berliner Philharmonie, and the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. A landmark moment was the orchestra's debut at the Golden Hall of the Musikverein Vienna, where its performance resonated with Chinese voice and style, marking a significant milestone in the global presence of Chinese traditional music.

Guided by the principles of diversifying artistic expression and preserving national character, the CNTO continues to inherit and explore the essence of China's millennia-old traditional music culture. Through the performance of a vast repertoire of outstanding traditional instrumental and original folk music works, it showcases the rich and varied forms of national art, earning high acclaim from audiences both at home and abroad.

Let us sing folk songs and perform traditional music, and use the power of national music to share China's voice with the globe.
