Beihang makes significant strides in advancing Embodied Intelligence Robotics Institute

On November 19, the 2nd Zhongguancun Embodied Intelligence Robot Application Conference was held at the Zhongguancun Exhibition Center. Under the theme "Embodied Intelligence for Future Applications," the event gathered over 500 representatives from the government, academia, and industry to jointly explore the technological breakthroughs and industrial prospects of embodied intelligence robotics.

During the opening ceremony, the co-construction cooperation for the Embodied Intelligence Robotics Institute of Beihang University was officially launched, witnessed by Cheng Bo, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Beihang University Committee, Liu Weihua, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission and Administrative Committee of Zhongguancun Science Park, and Tang Chao, Deputy Director of the Administrative Committee of Zhongguancun Science City and Deputy District Mayor of Haidian District. This university-local government collaborative initiative aims to integrate advantageous resources, develop the institute into a national innovation hub and industrial leader in the field of embodied intelligence, marking substantive progress in the institute's development.

In the keynote report session, Professor Wei Hongxing, Director of the Embodied Intelligence Robotics Institute, delivered a report titled "New Quality Productivity in the Intelligent Age: A New Landscape for Embodied Intelligence Development." The report systematically elaborated on the new development landscape and implementation pathways for robotics technology advancing into the era of embodied intelligence, sharing Beihang's insights into this cutting-edge field.

The Embodied Intelligence Robotics Institute of Beihang University is a university-affiliated research platform deeply integrated with industry-education-research collaboration to advance intelligent robot R&D and technology transfer. It focuses on frontier areas such as large models and embodied intelligence, dexterous manipulation skill learning, intelligent perception and compliant control, conducting application-driven basic research and technological innovation for scenarios such as new energy vehicle manufacturing and specialized service environments.

Leveraging the institute, Beihang is pioneering a project-based talent cultivation model with industry-education-research collaboration, building a new platform for reforming the talent training system. It has established the "Embodied Intelligent Robot Project-Based Experimental Class" to create a practice-oriented, interdisciplinary collaborative talent cultivation system. The experimental class employs a dual-drive approach of combining theory and project, deeply integrating the strengths of Robotics Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Automation disciplines to form a systematic training program from design to application. This approach enables students to bridge theory and practice in real engineering environments, aiming to cultivate top-notch innovative talent and future industry leaders in embodied intelligent robotics, thereby fully serving the nation's strategic needs in the new round of technological competition.
