Recently, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) announced the list of newly elected Fellows for the year 2026. Professor Niu Jianwei from the School of Computer Science and Engineering at Beihang University has been elected as an IEEE Fellow in recognition of his significant contributions to the field of mobile computing.

Niu Jianwei is a tenured professor and a doctoral supervisor at Beihang University. He also serves as the Chief Scientist of the National Industrial Internet Industry-Education Integration Innovation Platform, the Lead Scientist of the National Key R&D Program under the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Director of the Zhejiang Key Laboratory of Industrial Big Data and Robot Intelligent Systems. He has been consistently listed among the world's top 2% scientists for multiple years and was a visiting scholar at Carnegie Mellon University in the United States.
His long-term research focuses on mobile and distributed computing, embedded systems, and intelligent robot operating systems. He has published over 300 academic papers and has received more than ten Best Paper Awards in international conferences or journals, including MobiCom, PerCom, IEEE ICC, IEEE WCNC, JNCA, and IEEE Systems Journal. Additionally, he has been awarded the first prize of the Technological Invention Award by the Ministry of Education and the first prize of the National Defense Science and Technology Progress Award.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), founded on January 1, 1963, is the world's largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity, with over 420,000 members across more than 160 countries. The IEEE Fellow is the organization's highest membership distinction and one of its most prestigious honors. It is conferred upon a very limited number of Senior Members who have made significant contributions to the progress or application of engineering science and technology and brought great value to society. The number of IEEE Fellows elected annually does not exceed 0.1% of the total voting membership, making it one of the most exclusive honors in the global scientific and engineering community.
